Backyard Zoom Wedding 2020

Cyn & Steve were not the luckiest couples in the midst of all the Covid wedding reschedules. Originally they were getting married up at Gedney Farm in 2019, but family health issues forced them to reschedule to early 2020. And we all know what 2020 did to wedding plans โ€“ so they changed their wedding date again and shifted wedding plans. Then, their caterer cancelled on them and they had to change venues once again. Then, that venue cancelled on them and in the end they ended up in their backyard with 50 guests. We were able to Zoom in another 50 guests or so from around the country who couldnโ€™t make it in person.

In the course of planning this wedding, I did 3 separate site visits to talk lighting design and staging of events. We shifted lighting designs, DJing plans, and settled in on a combination of DJ, Zoom Live Streaming and Tent lighting with paper lanterns originally planned to be hung in Gedney Farm (I had already purchased them and had them sitting in storage for over a year now!).

No matter what was going on โ€“ Cyn always was optimistic and I am pretty sure she was smiling throughout this, even under her mask. Cynโ€™s brother handled their ceremony officiating and was so nervous that he skipped over their vows and the Zoom reading โ€“ we had to go back and stage those after he asked them to KISS!

When dinner was done and the sun started to set, we had a dance floor of guests who were ready to party. The dance floor never wavered and they danced for more than 2 hours straight. It was a beautiful backyard wedding. I tell you, after all the back and forth with Cyn and Steve โ€“ I had joked that I was spending more time with them than my own family and expected a Thanksgiving Dinner invitation. I would not be surprised if I donโ€™t get one in the mail in Novemberโ€ฆ

The Flow of your Wedding Reception and How We Structure It

When couples begin planning their celebration, most of the attention naturally goes to the big moments. The ceremony. The first dance. The final song of the night.
