Barn Weddings in MA and CT – Rustic Chic Barn Wedding

  |   Barn Weddings, Wedding Planning Ideas

The expression “born in a barn” generally paints an unfavorable picture of the person it’s applied to. These days, however, a marriage that’s born in a barn may have a stylish, elegant and memorable beginning.

Barn weddings are on the rise in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and throughout New England—and for good reason. New England offers a number of historic barn structures nestled in lush green landscapes. The interiors of these buildings, and their natural settings, provide a breathtaking backdrop for wedding photos. They also provide the chance for couples to customize their weddings and exercise their creativity in a way that traditional wedding venues may not.

Those unfamiliar with barn weddings may imagine lots of gingham, wildflowers, and picnic food. That casual ambiance is certainly an option for couples who like a laid-back, country style. The surprise for many is how elegant a barn wedding can be—not in spite of the setting, but because of it. Those with a taste for vintage can create the old-fashioned wedding of their dreams, with as many modern twists as they desire. Picture beams of sunlight slanting down on wooden tables dressed with antique lace, and adorned with water pitchers filled with lush red poppies. Not into lace? Consider crisp white butcher paper and Mason jars bursting with flowering herbs. The options are endless.

And the food! Barn means country, and country means fresh. Many barn wedding venues offer a menu of “farm-to-fork” specialties prepared onsite. Those that don’t can recommend caterers. Locally-sourced food is a point of pride with barn wedding venues, and menus vary with the season: think cream of asparagus soup with a lamb entree in spring, and pumpkin bisque alongside roast turkey in the fall. Some farms will even allow you to bring in home-prepared food, which adds a homey touch while being economical. And speaking of edibles, consider consumable favors, like jars of local honey or homemade jam, labeled with the bride and groom’s name and wedding date.

The desire to create a memorable, personalized wedding while keeping costs under control is a big motivator for couples who choose barn weddings. Barn weddings offer the flexibility of combining DIY where desired with professional service where needed, in a fresh, charming setting. The abundance of barn wedding venues in New England virtually guarantees that you will find a barn to house the perfect beginning to your marriage.
