A: Check out their social media channels, listen to audio clips of their work, and really read the reviews of past clients. It will be obvious who takes your wedding seriously as a business and who are the less-than-average DJs in your area that won’t deliver on their promises.

A: It’s their skill in keeping the energy on the dance floor and making sure all your guests are entertained and on the dance floor. Someone could have been DJing for 20+ years but still not have this ability to bring family and friends to their feet. It takes a special person to read a crowd and morph into what is necessary for that particular group in front of them each and every weekend. A great DJ knows how to program and blend the right music to fit both your style and keep that energy level on your dance floor. They will curate the perfect blend of music for your wedding day soundtrack.

A: If your idea of a great wedding is seeing your friends and family out on the dance floor, then a wedding DJ is more important to you. If you are not planning on dancing at your own wedding or if music isn’t important to you, then maybe your wedding photographer should be more of a priority for your wedding. We get it, not everyone’s priorities are the same when planning their wedding, but if it’s “all about the party” for you, then you better make sure to find the best DJ to ensure your expectations are met when it comes to the party and dancing.

A; Our newest DJs are paired with our seasoned wedding DJ pros and shadow them for YEARS before they can ever go out on their own. They might start by helping set up and tear down our DJ systems to become proficient at the technical end of things. They will practice at home and their skills as DJ will be reviewed by our staff. Then, they might start taking control during social hour and dinner with our trained DJs guiding them. Even after they are ready to DJ a wedding, we still keep a seasoned MC with them for at least another wedding season to continue their training. In the end, they will spend 3-4 years interning before ever going out on their own.

A: Most DJs require a small deposit or retainer (~20%) to secure your wedding date. The remaining balance is normally paid a week or two prior to your wedding date so you don’t have to worry about anything on your actual wedding date. After all, who wants to have a pile of envelopes or have to whip out their credit card on the day of their wedding?

A: Unlike a wedding band that might just not have the ability to play EDM or mimic the latest hit by Halsey or Justin Bieber, your wedding DJ should be able to play virtually any style of music. Of course, they need to have a legal copy of all music being played. No, it’s not like they can call up Spotify or Youtube and play anything available online. They need to secure legal copies of music for playback through DJ record pools or other subscription-based services available only to professional DJs.

A: We always suggest that if you are having a band at your wedding, you also consider hiring a DJ/MC as well. Besides bands not being able to sound like all your favorite artists, they usually are not skilled in making announcements that are necessary at a wedding. Your DJ can take care of the music the band can’t handle, can play during band breaks (which are rather frequent, long and cause a lull in the action on your dance floor). It’s the best of both worlds and hiring a wedding DJ/MC is much less expensive than hiring a good wedding band.
