Here are my Top 5 High Fidelity Wedding Lists for 2019. You see, one of my favorite John Cusack movies is HIGH FIDELITY. This 2000 movie revolves around a record store owner and compulsive list maker. It recounts his top 5 breakups. The reboot HIGH FIDELITY TV series of the same name has Zoë Kravitz, taking the role of record store owner and is worth the watch, if even for just the cameo appearances of the likes of Debbie Harry and it’s amazing soundtrack.
So – here goes some of my Wedding Top 5 lists inspired by Zoë Kravitz and John Cusack’s High Fidelity
Top 5 Real Weddings of 2019
1. Hotel On North – Brittany & Brett
At Rob Alberti’s – we pride ourselves on being the best of the best. That requires that our DJs and Lighting Technicians are trained properly and that training be reinforced each wedding season. For Brittany and Brett’s wedding, I had the opportunity to act not as their DJ and MC but I took care of the uplighting at Hotel On North while one of our newer wedding DJs, Justin was in charge. It gave us both the opportunity to cross-train with each other. I was able to give Justin some pointers and I got to hear his music choices to help me keep from getting in the rut of playing the same music. This is why Brittany and Brett’s wedding is on my top 5 list.
2. Mass MoCA Wedding – Maddie & Peter
Weddings at Mass MoCA are unique. This is a HUGE space. Ceremony is in one gallery space. Cocktails in another gallery space. Dinner, in yet another space and Dancing in a 4th space. That means that a typical wedding DJ with only 1 sound system, just can’t handle the complexity of the setup required at Mass MoCA.
With my trusty DJ assistant and sound technician, we had sound systems set up in all 4 locations and as guests transitioned from space to space at Mass MoCA, we just pressed play on the new system and tore down each gallery as it cleared of guests for a smooth transition for guests and venue alike.
We do so many multi-system sound setups for our weddings now that it has become routine. At Rob Alberti’s, the size and complexity of what we can handle has grown so much over the years. This was clearly evident at Maddie & Peter’s wedding at Mass MoCA and so it is on our Top 5 list of 2019.
3. Mystic Boatshed Wedding – Kristen & Gil
Kristen & Gil’s wedding was in early Oct, but the temperature was not your typical Oct weather. It was somewhere between 50 and 60 degrees under the boatshed the entire night. The propane heaters just couldn’t keep up with the bitterly cold wind whipping off the water.
We hung bistro string lights at 6 am that day. It was so cold, that the string lights wouldn’t even unwrap easily. We came back that afternoon to set up for their ceremony and to DJ. I should have put on my thermal underwear under my tuxedo. Guests never took off their coats, but by the energy on the dance floor, you would never guess how cold it was on their wedding day.
Kristen and Gil’s family and friends stayed until the end and never complained. When it was time to dance – everyone came out and huddled close and the Mystic Boat Shed warmed up with love. For that reason, I give Kristen and Gil’s wedding a spot on our Top 5 Weddings of 2019.
4. Stonover Farm Wedding – Allison & Nick
When you tour the barn at Stonover in Lenox, MA – it’s nothing more than an empty barn. No lights. No furniture. Nothing but bat dung. Allison and Nick had a vision for their wedding and with a whole lot of our lighting – we turned this ordinary barn wedding venue into an amazing space for a wedding.
We hung bistro string lights throughout the rafters, amber LED uplights on al the beams and perimeter and installed a custom wood Edison bulb chandelier over the dance floor and over the bar. When we were striking the lights the day after their wedding, even Sonover’s owner, Tom commented about how amazing the space was transformed with our lighting.
For the amazing transformation from an empty barn to AMAZING WEDDING VENUE, we put Allison and Nick’s Stonover Barn wedding on our top 5 list for 2019.
5. Bloom Meadows Wedding – Chara & Jillian
Topping off our Top 5 list was Chara and Jillian’s intimate family-style wedding. We provided sound support for their ceremony outdoors, uplighting, DJ and photo booth. They had friends who officiated their ceremony and played music through our sound system. They had other friends that played and sang the song for their first dance. Incorporating these very personal touches to their wedding day and the AMAZING ENERGY ON THE DANCE FLOOR puts Chara and Jillian’s wedding on our Top Wedding List for 2019.
