Leah + Ted’s Wedding – The Lake House Lanesboro MA
Leah + Ted’s Wedding – The Lake House Lanesboro MA
Leah + Ted came to me after seeing multiple other wedding DJs (Boston Area) and they just didn’t want that cliche wedding music at their weekend-long celebration at The Guest Cottages Lake House. They loved classic rock and funk and disco and LCD Sound Machine and Sofi Tucker. They met at UConn (Med school) and it was an instant connection between them.
The cool thing about The Guest Cottages at The Lake House is that you get an entire weekend with your friends and family. Check-in on Friday, and have a welcome dinner and low-key party that night. Saturday is your wedding day with your ceremony onsite and then Sunday you have a quick brunch and say goodbye all without leaving the Lake.
Not only did we provide DJ and sound support for their ceremony through last song, we also did the tent string lighting and paper lanterns for their tented wedding in the Berkshires.

Wedding Tip – Maximize Your Dance Time
Q: When Should You Schedule Wedding Toasts and Speeches at your Reception?
A: If you are having a sit-down plated meal with courses, you should make sure all toasts are done prior to the main entre being served so your guests can enjoy their meal and so toasts don’t interfere with meal services and dancing. If you are having a buffet or station-style meal, toasts need to be done BEFORE the first table goes up to the buffet. It is nearly impossible to gather guests and keep them quite enough to enjoy your toasts once they’ve eaten and are ready to party. Waiting until after the meal will eat into your dance time significantly.
Although we warn clients about stating toasts at the end of dinner, some do not listen to our years of experience in keeping a wedding reception flowing and energized. For this buffet meal, they decided to do the 7 toasts after the buffet meal. It took 20 minutes for their wedding planner to try and corral everyone back into the tent for toasts before she gave up and just told us to start the toasts without all the guests. It took another 40+ minutes to get through all the toasts. THEN, guests disbursed to check out the lake view, grab a smoke or drink, go back to their cottages and we didn’t really get started dancing until just before 9pm. Their wedding ended at 10, so we had less than 70 minutes to dance. We literally lost an entire hour of dancing.
Keep toasts to 3 maximum. Move unnecessary toasts to your rehearsal dinner. Listen to your MC/DJ as we know crowd dynamics and we know what works and what drags a party down. At 10pm, this party had just started and we had to end. We would have had 2+ hours of dancing at this wedding had we designed the timeline to one centered around an upbeat dance party atmosphere as they had wanted.
